Leaves opposite, to 25 mm x 6 mm, rough to hairy, margins recurved. 4–petalled, white or mauve flowers, each to 3 mm, in heads to 25 mm mainly in spring. Useful plant to provide texture in rock gardens and suitable for dry areas.
