GroNative Data
Acacia amblygona - Fan Wattle
Locally common in eastern Australia in dry habitats.
Small shrub to 1.5m high with slightly hairy stems and phyllodes. Phyllodes are ovate in shape with prominent midvein and sharp point. Flowers are born from phyllode axils in solitary globose heads with 12-18 bright yellow flowers. Seed pods strongly curved with seeds constricted.
Grows well in sunny spots with ordinary, drier soils that have a sandy base and roughly neutral pH. Grows well as an informal hedge or as a barrier with its spiny leaves keeping out intruders. The prostrate form 'Winter Gold' makes good groundcover and the seeds are popular with birds.
