Property Goals
Roadmap of short-term and long-term goals for Cedar Creek Adventure, focusing on habitat restoration, weed eradication, and property walk development.
Property Goals & Restoration Roadmap
Welcome to our property restoration roadmap. Here we document our vision for Cedar Creek Adventure, split into actionable short-term targets and long-term ecosystem restoration goals.
🛑 The Core Vision
Our primary mission is to restore the natural biodiversity of this South East Queensland property, moving it from a weed-dominated landscape to a thriving native habitat that supports local wildlife. We are focusing on clearing invasive species, stabilizing the creek banks, and establishing a robust native canopy.
"Restoration is a journey of small, consistent steps. By documenting progress and planning ahead, we ensure the land heals block by block."
📅 Short-Term Goals (1–2 Years)
Immediate focus areas to stabilize cleared zones and build momentum.
1. Weed Clearing & Maintenance Zones
- Target: Clear the dominant Lantana and Cat's Claw Creeper infestations in high-priority zones (e.g. around the driveway, side gully, and immediate house area).
- Action: Manual removal and targeted treatment, followed by heavy mulching to prevent regrowth.
2. Pioneer Planting
- Target: Plant fast-growing native pioneer species (like Homalanthus populifolius / Bleeding Heart) in cleared zones.
- Action: Establish shade canopy quickly to suppress weed seeds in the soil.
3. Expand the Plants Database & Tagging
- Target: Continue tagging new plant specimens with unique pot numbers (e.g.
123) to track their survival and growth rates. - Action: Sync observations with our database to record seasonal adaptations.
4. Creek Bank Stabilization
- Target: Prevent erosion along Cedar Creek during heavy rain events.
- Action: Plant deep-rooted native grasses like Lomandra hystrix along the creek margins to bind the soil.
🌳 Long-Term Goals (5–10 Years)
Our long-term ecological goals to establish a self-sustaining ecosystem.
1. Canopy Restoration
- Target: Re-establish a closed dry rainforest canopy across the property.
- Action: Plant slow-growing canopy trees like Queensland Kauri Pine, Hoop Pine, and Lilly Pillies under the shelter of the pioneer species.
2. Wildlife Corridors & Habitat Creation
- Target: Fully integrate with the Land for Wildlife program by creating safe corridors for native animals.
- Action: Plant food sources for vulnerable species, such as the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Vine (Pararistolochia praevenosa) and koala food trees.
3. Path & Trail Development
- Target: Develop a clear walking path connecting all key Points of Interest (POIs).
- Action: Maintain low-impact walking tracks with educational signage for visitors to explore the various zones from the house down to Cedar Creek.
4. Zero Invasive Weed Infestation
- Target: Eradicate all mature invasive weeds and transition the property to low-maintenance natural regeneration.
- Action: Maintain a regular patrol schedule to pull new seedlings before they mature.
